This series is a remake of all seven of J.K. Rowling’s original novels. The trailer for the first film, “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone,” begins with Harry living under the stairs at the Dursleys’ house. Scenes of him being bullied by Dudley at Muggle school and having his hair cut with kitchen scissors by Aunt Petunia show the harsh life he had, faithful to the original novels.
The Dursleys had always told Harry that he was just an ordinary boy, but when he received his acceptance letter from Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, his destiny began to change. Hagrid told him that his parents were accomplished wizards, and he met Ron at Platform 9 and 3/4, finally beginning his journey to Hogwarts.
At Hogwarts, familiar characters such as Professor McGonagall, the Sorting Hat, Hermione, Draco, and Professor Snape make appearances one after another. In addition to scenes such as Harry receiving his wand from Ollivander and his joy at receiving the Nimbus 2000, the film also includes elements not depicted in the movies, such as the Gryffindor vs. Hufflepuff Quidditch match and a snowball fight in the snow-covered school. The film ends with Ron asking Harry, “Are you really Harry Potter?” on the Hogwarts Express, to which Harry smiles.
The images released alongside the announcement include shots that capture the world of the film, such as Harry, Ron, and Hermione walking side-by-side down a corridor, Draco attending a class, and Snape standing in a snow-covered forest. The child cast for this film includes Dominic McLaughlin as Harry Potter, Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger, Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley, Rox Pratt as Draco Malfoy, and Amos Kitson as Dudley Dursley. The adult cast includes accomplished actors such as John Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore, Janet McTeer as Minerva McGonagall, Papa Essidoh as Severus Snape, Nick Frost as Rubeus Hagrid, and Anton Lesser as Garrick Ollivander.
The showrunner and screenwriter is Francesca Gardiner, known for “Megalocarp,” and the director is Mark Mylod, also from “Megalocarp.” Executive producers include author J.K. Rowling, Gardiner, Mylod, film producer David Heyman, Neil Blair of the “Fantastic Beasts” series, and Ruth Kenley-Letts of “I’m Not a Serial Killer” (2017). The drama series “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone” will premiere on HBO in Christmas 2026 and will be exclusively available on HBO Max in regions where it is available, including Germany, Italy, the UK, and Ireland. We await information on its availability in Japan.
