One of the series that captured everyone’s attention a year ago with its first season was Paradise, where we followed the collapse of the world and the assassination of President Cal Bradford. As a series full of mystery, twists, and suspense, many believed that the buzz generated by the first season wouldn’t be replicated in the second. But now that the finale is here, with an episode that resolves several mysteries, many fans are saying that the third season will likely arrive sooner than expected. But…what do the events of the final episode mean for what’s to come? We’ll tell you in this article, which, of course, contains spoilers for the season two finale of Paradise.
A revelation we’ve been waiting for since the start of the season
Many didn’t know how they were going to wrap up the major mysteries of this second season, and one thing Paradise has proven is that they’re good at plot twists—and these new episodes are no exception. But what’s most striking is that this latest episode did something that completely changed how the series is understood, as it confirms that time isn’t linear in the Paradise universe. Far removed from classic time travel, this series focuses on something more tied to science and technology, with a central focus on Alex. This secret development linked to Sinatra, Julianne Nicholson’s character, appears to be behind all the events that many believed were Sinatra’s doing.
What the season finale confirms is that Alex is an extremely complex quantum computer created by Link (Thomas Doherty), and her objective is quite clear: to find a solution to prevent an environmental disaster that threatens to render the planet uninhabitable. But her capabilities far exceed this initial purpose. Throughout the season, we had the occasional hint that Alex was important, such as the visions shared by Link and Xavier, or all the coincidences that steered the story in a very specific direction. Everything seems to indicate that Alex not only analyzes data but also actively intervenes in events.
A massive shift for the series and its future
With this computer now playing a major role in the series, we don’t really know if the events that occurred simply happened because they were meant to, or because Alex decided they should happen—something that could easily upend the relationship between cause and effect. And with this twist, Paradise dives headfirst into one of the most complex debates in human history: free will. Furthermore, this revelation gives us a new context for all the events of the first season. Situations that seemed like coincidences can now be interpreted as part of the much broader plan they have for Alex. We already have a third season confirmed, so all we can do is be patient and wait to see how they develop this new storyline. Both seasons of Paradise are available on Disney Plus thanks to Hulu.
