This weekend, new photos from the set of Daredevil: Born Again Season 3 definitively confirmed that the Defenders team will make their MCU debut with the return of Luke Cage and Iron Fist, once again portrayed by Mike Colter and Finn Jones. In recent days, photos from the set of *Daredevil: Season 3 in New York have confirmed previous rumors about the return of Mike Colter and Finn Jones as Luke Cage and Iron Fist in the Disney+ series: Marvel has not yet commented on their possible appearance in the second season, but these set photos have understandably sparked fan excitement around this long-awaited Defenders reunion.
Furthermore, curiosity is piqued because while Krysten Ritter can be seen in the photos alongside Luke Cage and Iron Fist as Jessica Jones, one character who is suspiciously absent is none other than Charlie Cox’s Daredevil: this team wouldn’t be the same without him, so many fans have wondered where Matt is and, above all, what will bring Luke, Jess, and Danny together? According to insider My Time To Shine Hello, at the start of season three, the focus will be on the Defenders as they work to protect New York in Matt Murdock’s absence. We already know, by the writers’ own admission and thanks to the trailer for Spider-Man: Brand New Day, that Wilson Fisk’s term as mayor of the Big Apple ends in season two, so what threat will be serious enough to bring the Defenders back into action?
The Hand is a tempting possibility, especially considering that the return of this organization—now much more faithful to the comics in appearance—will be a central element of Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which, in terms of the timeline, will be set after the second season of Daredevil: Born Again. Of course, Spider-Man can’t protect an entire city on his own, so the Defenders will be essential following Daredevil’s “disappearance” foreshadowed in My Time to Shine, Hello.
But the question remains: what happened to Daredevil? Having already watched the entire second season, we can only say that this is too big a spoiler to reveal before the season two finale, but comic book fans have already formed some theories (and the more knowledgeable among them might even guess what role Iron Fist will play). In any case, showrunner Dario Scardapane has hinted that the final 5 minutes of the second season of Daredevil: Born Again will give fans a clue as to what the plot of the third season will be…
